Abstrakt: The article demonstrates that purine nucleotides are natural antioxidants and protect DNA from damage by reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated by ionizing radiation and heat. The nucleotides decrease heat-induced generation in aqueous solutions of ROS. It was found that guanosine and inosine function as radioprotectors which increase the survival rate of mice exposed to γ-radiation and that they are effective when injected after irradiation.
