The article examines the shrinkage of cotton yarn and the viscosity of its solutions in aqueous caustic soda, cuprammonium hydroxide. The study shows that the shrinkage of cotton yarn in mixed solutions of sodium hydroxide and cuprammonium hydroxide reveals a maximum value at concentrations of sodium hydroxide. It states that the solution obtained by dissolving the cotton yarn in sodium hydroxide-cuprammonium mixtures containing a still higher proportion of the latter constituent show no marked change in viscosity over the range of sodium hydroxide concentrations in which the observed variations in shrinkage occur. |
