The article evaluates the book on kinship "Metamorphoses de la parené," by Maurice Godelier. In his book, Godelier aims to refute his master, Claude Lévi-Strauss' theory that society is based on the exchange of women and the theory of the origin of incest prohibitions offered by his colleague, Françoise Heéritier. Godelier covers various topics such as the transformation of western European relationship systems, the socially imposed ritual homosexuality and spiritual and physical theories of conception. |
