The article focuses on the retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) which is identified by the World Health Organization as a leading cause of vision impairment in children in the developing world. Demographics of ROP in transitional economies are hard to ascertain and without this knowledge, it will be difficult to identify those infants who should be screened and treated. A treatment for reducing the rate of unfavorable outcomes is available but surveillance for the disease is required. |
