Abstrakt: The article describes a research which has been conducted to determine the diseases which inflict Hispanic men who have sex with men (MSM). It was found that these men are at high risk of HIV infection. The club drug use and sexual behaviors of two distinct samples (community and the Internet) of Hispanic MSM living in the AIDS epicenter of Miami-Dade County have been studied. High rates of unprotected anal sex, multiple sexual partnerships and increased drug use, particularly club drug use may explain this elevated risk. Beside elevating HIV risk, club drugs consumption can have severe physiological and psychological consequences including neurological effects and cardiovascular failure. Social workers can help Hispanic MSM to reduce their HIV risk. But for this social work practitioners need to understand the important differences between MSM and non-MSM substance users, understand the social and cultural context of drug use and risky sexual practices in Hispanic MSM. These understanding, along with their clinical experience and innovation, should be used to develop effective approaches for assisting Hispanic MSM to reduce their use of drugs and to change their risky sexual practices.
