Abstrakt: The article focuses on a study, which assesses graduate nursing student group leaders' application of the theoretical constructs of group leadership, group process, curative factors, identification of group themes, stages of group development and the role of the group leader in a peer-led support group. 100 graduate pre-specialty nursing students, who had achieved at least a bachelor's degree and were in their first year of a 3-year graduate nursing program at Yale University School of Nursing, New Haven, Connecticut, participated in the support groups as group members. To evaluate the leadership experience of group leaders, they were asked to complete a survey. Data were evaluated through descriptive statistics. The most common theme recognized by group leaders was related to the students' evolving identities as nurses. Anxiety and feelings of inadequacy in learning a new skill set and providing patient care was the second most common theme. The third theme was related to navigating relationships with clinical preceptors and peers and adjusting to differences in preceptors' clinical styles.
