The article presents information on the International Association of Schools of Social Work. The association has in the past developed critical analyses of power relationships, between educators and students in social work education, and between social workers and their "clients" in the practice context. The association teaches future social workers in their universities about the impact of social positions in their day-to-day activities and relationships. The author informs that the association's commitment to social justice and human rights will be demonstrated through the development of equality in such partnerships. Some observations suggest that partnerships are actually often developed between schools from the same geographical and economic areas. The association has also developed international co-operation. The author argues that relations between countries from the North and the South have traditionally been based not on co-operation but on domination of one country by another, a dynamic that persists in many cases. The author observes that understanding the different processes of globalization in the North and the South is a prerequisite for those entering into any form of international co-operation. |
