The article discusses the functions of the elementary teacher as a unit leader and his/her role in instructional decision making. The authors define that the unit leader is both teacher and instructional leader who heads a team of teachers, assistants and student teachers. The unit leader has different functions in a multiunit organization: 1) internal leader of the Instruction and Research Unit 2) Providing leadership for the Instructional Improvement Committee at the building level and 3) Decision making function as a member of the Systemwide Program Committee. Thus, unit leaders serves as connecting links, responsible for three functions: communication, coordination and decision making. |
