The article focuses on the survey regarding the state certification requirements resulting from the preparation of regular classroom teachers to work with handicapped students in the U.S. The survey found that 18 states and the District of Columbia have embraced requirements designating preparation of regular classroom teachers to work with the handicapped including Colorado, California, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. The states with requirements pending to train regular educators to work with handicapped pupils include Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. |
