The article cites a study about the effective methods in teaching aphasic students at the Institute for Childhood Aphasia, Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California. The children involved were described to have difficulties in understanding or produce conventional verbal language. Twenty subjects between the age of three and eight were involved in the investigation. The researchers found that the maximal use of the visual modality to correct verbal responses, minimized motor responses, tasks presented in carefully graded sequences and a learning environment that is highly structured and distraction free were among the training conditions most effective for aphasic children. |
