Abstrakt: The potential for spinning yarns of high linear density from coarse wools by the self-twist principle is assessed. Experiments made on a Mk I Repco spinner, which was modified to process slivers of up to 4.5 ktex into yarns of up to about R650/2 tex, are reported. No difficulty was experienced in spinning yarns of high linear density or very coarse wools, but both the coarseness of the wool and the linear density of the yarn were found to affect the twisting efficiency significantly.
