The article presents information on a study related to the counselors. It gives an overview of their selection, characteristics and their role in education. A researcher reported that self-selection by counseling students was an extremely successful screening technique if self-insight development and free choice were stressed in counselor education programs. The type and frequency of professional problems experienced by beginning fulletime counselors were studied by a researcher, who used a questionnaire consisting of sixty two typical counselor duties categorized under eight general headings. According to a researcher, supervisors, instructors and peers agreed among themselves on the relative ranking of counselor trainees regarding perceived general effectiveness as a counselor in the full range of counseling and guidance activities. A Video Tape Recording Environmental Rating Scale differentiated significantly between counselor and counselee ratings of counseling sessions conducted in three different physical environments: regular and simulated counseling cubicles and an open studio setting. |
