The article presents an overview of the December 2005 issue of the journal "Information Development." The paper entitled "Informing Society in African, Caribbean and Pacific Countries: Developing Unlikely Partnerships," by Bridget McBean reviews some current development initiatives and the ways in which technology tends to dominate them while information issues such as literacy, the right to information and intellectual property rights lag behind. The author has also highlighted the role of information managers in tackling the challenges. The journal as a whole has increasingly featured information and communication technologies (ICTs) and their applications in recent years. A specific example of the application of ICTs in developing countries is provided in the paper entitled "Internet Awareness and Use in the University of Ghana," by Edwin Ellis Badu and Evelyn D. Markwei. The use of electronic resources by academic staff and students in another African country is the subject of the paper entitled "Electronic Resource Usage in Academic and Research Institutions in Tanzania," by Paul A. Manda. |
