Abstrakt: The article discusses the kinetics of dyeing and properties of iron(II) salt complexes for reduction of vat dyes. Iron(II)-two ligand based reducing systems imparts better stability to reduced dye to cause better dye uptake compared to the hydrosulfite system. Ligands must be applied prior to addition of NaOH for complete complexion of Fe(II), though the structure and nature of these ligands control the stability of coordination linkage. A single ligand cannot form a clear and efficient reduction bath inspite of adding it in excess. Efficiency of reduction baths were found to be maximum around room temperature.
