Abstrakt: The article critically analyzes the novel "A Thousand Acres," by Jane Smiley. In the novel, Smiley creates a fictional character and writes the story of how that character writes itself. The theme of feminist resistance is closely linked to the process of narration itself, and the main character, Ginny, is able to define herself in opposition to traditional definitions of "woman."
