This article highlights the topics discussed during the Professional Advancement Committee conference held in Birmingham, England in 2005. Ophthalmic surgeon Gavin Orr gave the first lecture of the day on the epidemiology and management of diabetic eye disease. Jim McCaul presented slides of patients who had been assaulted by fist, knife, and even chainsaw. He showed how he and colleagues repaired the damaged bones and soft tissues. Monique Hope-Ross gave advice on how optometrists could refine their diagnostic skills in patients with age-related macular degeneration. |
