The article author suggests that recruiting and nurturing executives from different ethnic backgrounds might be the best way for Hollywood to reach the underserved audiences in the U.S. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Hispanics now comprise 14% of the population, blacks 13.3% and Asians 5% — and all are potential audience members. And at a time when increasing audience fragmentation and ongoing boxoffice slumps have executives ready to pull out their hair, one could argue that appealing to those segments of the population is critical to the bottom line. |
