The article presents a reprint of the article "A Wake-up Call," by Jim Wallis, which appeared in the April 2005 issue of "Sojourners" magazine. Wallis' article begins by citing civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from a Birmingham Jail," which he addressed to the white clergy who were opposing him on the issues of racial segregation and violence against black people. It notes how King refused to attack the integrity and faith of his opponents then and questions why the Religious Right in the United States is doing the opposite. It goes on to argue that the Religious Right is declaring a religious war to enable their version of faith to gain religious supremacy in the country. In response to this war, the article exhorts the rest of the country to take back both its faith and its Constitution. It calls on the rest of the churches and people of faith everywhere to stand up and let their faith be heard. |
