Read-write (RW) performance of a discrete track perpendicular recording medium was evaluated. It was confirmed that track following was available by using the pre-formed servo pattern. Byte-error-rate (BER) evaluations showed the written signal on the discrete track medium was stable due to the effect of discrete tracks and grooves for preventing side-writing. The extendibility of this technology was evaluated using a signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) simulation using the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) method. The result showed that this medium has a potential for achieving a higher SNR at higher track density. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
