Abstrakt: |
The article reports on the measurement of the energy cost of backpack load carrying under various speeds and loading conditions to find out the optimal walking speed for load-carrying and the maximal load that can reasonably be carried at that optimal speed. Several attempts have been made to define the optimal or maximum acceptable load to be carried but none addressed the issue of the optimal speed-load combination that is most suitable for long walks. It was found out that walking at 1.3 meters per second minimizes the gross energy cost of load-carrying. |
