Abstrakt: The article discusses whether subclinical hypothyroidism (SH) is a risk factor for poor pregnancy and neonatal outcomes. Using a prospective study design of > 16,000 young pregnant women, the study showed that SH in the second trimester is associated with a significantly increased risk of placental abruption, pre-term birth, admission to the neonatal intensive care nursery, and respiratory distress. Subclinical hypothyroidism was associated with increased risk of having a pregnancy complicated by placental abruption, preterm birth, admission to the neonatal intensive care nursery, and respiratory distress.
