Abstrakt: This article discusses the issue of public funding for TV programs in New Zealand which the public do want to watch. Critic Jane Clifton question the spending of public funds for such kind of TV programs. Clifton identified the TV program The Market as an example of wasted public funding for TV production. The Market is broadcast by TVNZ. Annemarie Duff, TV programming head at TVNZ clarified several issues dealing with the TV program. Duff pointed out the cost of broadcasting during prime time. She said that The Market's slot time is not as expensive as that during prime time where most audience are concentrated.
