This is a prospective multi-center cohort study to evaluate the acceptability and effectiveness of a new device the OrthoTrac™ which aims at unloading the spine in an upright posture. Three hundred and thirteen patients (313) were enrolled and 201 completed an eight-week trial. Outcomes were determined using a Visual Analog Scale and SF-36. Both scales improved significantly over the eight-week period. We conclude that this novel treatment benefit patients with back pain. Subgroups need to be identified and randomized controlled trials performed on these groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
