Abstrakt: This article examines questions that the International Conference on Latin American Women's Literature in August 1987, posed about the specificity and difference of women's literature. All of these questions were contextualized within the conference by the violence and political censorship of Chile under the dictatorship and by the marginality of Latin American culture with respect to metropolitan institutional and academic discourse. Although the first of these marks has been transformed by the democratic reopening, the second still remains in force, leaving people with the challenge of offering local reflections that must readjust the theoretical registers of imported knowledge to the local demands and provocations of locally emergent poetics and narratives.
