This article examines the aphid infestation in seed potato crops in England. The concept of virus multiplication in seed potato stocks is shown not to be related to aphid infestations. It is suggested that most of the observed increase in leaf roll virus can be accounted for as additions to the virus content of the parent stock attributed to introduction by migrant alate aphids from ware potato areas. It was found out that the increase in leaf roll was best related to the aphids. The most probable source of virus introduction is the migration of alate aphids from the ware growing areas. |
