The article discusses the application of field sampling and laboratory examination on cereal root eelworm Heterodera major for cysts. In most cases, the bulked soil sample from the field had been sieved before distribution to the six centres co-operating in the experiment, and the soil was re-sieved at each centre. In addition to the routine examinations described above, the residues from the Fenwick cans were washed into the collecting sieves of the apparatus and transferred to filter paper or bolting silk or to a drying tray. There were large differences between the average percentages of cysts left in the sediment at the bottom of the Fenwick can for different sites. |
