Abstrakt: This article highlights observations on the early stages of potato blight or Phytophthora infestans attacks on plants grown in a glasshouse and a field plot in Cambridge, England in 1956. Thirty-five tubers of Eclipse variety were planted in a glasshouse on February 7 and the plants to which they gave rise were inoculated on April 13 with P. infestans. Lesions began to appear on leaves after seven days, on stem tips after ten days and stem bases after fourteen days. The chosen plot was one at the Rockefeller Field Station and the field selected was at Manea in the Isle of Ely. The results from the field plot suggest that the development of a focus from an artificially inoculated plant can progress under humidity conditions.
