This article presents several abstracts related to the field of production management. The first one is "An Assessment of Operations in US Service Firms," by Gustavo A. Vargas and Ghasem H. Manoochehri. It focuses on the service sector of the American economy which is expanding very rapidly at a greater than 6 percent annual growth rate. It determines and describes operations-related practices and assesses skills development requirements faced by service firms operating in a real-life environment. Another one is "A Comparative Analysis and Review of JIT Implementation Research," by Narender K. Ramarapu, Satish Mehra and Mark N. Frolick. It compares the research done in the area of just-in-time (JIT) implementation in the past decade, identifies critical JIT elements, and groups the elements into broader factors. An extensive literature search was conducted to identify over 130 JIT implementation articles published in both professional journals and proceedings. The result shows that elimination of waste and production strategy are the most specific critical factors of JIT implementation. |
