This article presents a study whose aim was to acquire a better understanding of the hair care and hair styling carried out in salons and hairdressing centers, as well as the side effects of these procedures observed in women in Bamako Mali. In contrast to Caucasian hair, which is fine and silky, black African hair has a dry and frizzy consistency. In both sexes, the natural hairstyle formed by the hair is used in various contexts as a means of self-expression, in particular to express female beauty. There seems to be a real and constantly increasing demand for hair care among women in Mali, particularly in Bamako. A large number of salons and hairdressing centers exist to meet these needs. The low level of technical knowledge in these infrastructures would appear to explain the many side effects observed. In order to meet the demand, while minimizing the side effects, all those involved will need to work together in future. |
