The article discusses the increased risk of osteoporosis and fractures in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) compared to the general population. Various studies have shown a higher prevalence of osteoporosis and fractures in IIM patients, with factors such as disease duration, glucocorticoid therapy, and inflammation contributing to bone health issues. Modifiable risk factors like hypovitaminosis D, smoking, and sedentary lifestyle can be targeted to prevent bone loss in IIMs, emphasizing the importance of regular evaluation and appropriate management to reduce fracture risk. The article also highlights the role of exercise therapy in improving bone health and reducing inflammation-related bone loss in patients with IIMs. [Extracted from the article] |
