Recent advances in sickle cell anemia research have been reported by New York City Health and Hospitals, focusing on eliminating healthcare access and quality inequities in the disease. The End Sepsis Initiative, developed after a tragic death due to sepsis, serves as a model for the sickle cell community. Recommendations include implementing evidence-based protocols, personalized pain plans, stigma reduction, vaccinations, and connecting patients to medical homes to improve care quality.
