A recent study conducted at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Woolloongabba, Australia, compared the effectiveness of peritoneal dialysis (PD) and haemodialysis (HD) for individuals with kidney failure starting dialysis. The research included a review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non-randomized studies of interventions (NRSIs) to assess the benefits and harms of PD versus HD. The findings indicated uncertainty regarding the preservation of residual kidney function, risk of death, incidence of bacteraemia, vascular complications, and patient-reported outcomes between PD and HD, primarily based on NRSIs due to limited RCTs.
