Abstrakt: The challenges related to global climate change, the need to limit harmful emissions in the atmosphere, the preservation and protection of natural ecosystems require the transition to a more circular economic model related to the efficiency of resources and making environmentally friendly decisions regarding limiting the negative impact on environment. In recent years, waste management has become one of the environmental problems of humanity worldwide. The purpose of the development is to analyze and evaluate the current state of household waste and packaging waste management in Bulgaria, as part of the circular economy indicators. As a result of the conducted research, it is established that the amount of household waste generated in Bulgaria during the analyzed years remains relatively constant. The share of household waste sent for recycling at the expense of those sent for direct disposal is increasing. In recent years, there has been a steady trend of increasing the amount of packaging waste, and the percentage of recycled packaging in Bulgaria is close to the average for the EU. Waste is considered as a resource occupying a priority place in the process of transition to a clean and efficient circular economy in order to limit the negative impact on the natural environment on a regional, national and global scale.
