This article presents information on a select group of specialty distributors of films in the U.S. Fine Line Features, New Line Cinema Corp.'s specialty division, marked its last year of doing business in its original incarnation with three Oscar-nominated films that wowed critics if not large numbers of moviegoers. With films like "Maria Full of Grace," "Vera Drake" and "The Sea Inside," Fine Line enjoyed a relatively robust 2004. Focus Features, Universal Pictures' specialty arm, has had stunning success with a wide range of English-and foreign-language titles. Focus has reached its goal of releasing eight to 12 films annually and its foreign sales division has been thriving thanks to the films "Bad Education," and "House of Flying Dragons." |
