Abstrakt: Europeanization of written Chinese refers to the influence of European languages on the Chinese lexicon and syntactic structures. As a regional variety, Hong Kong Written Chinese (HKWC) also possesses various Europeanized features. Most studies have spotted Europeanized features in written Chinese, whereas the consolidation of data sources and updated corpus-based analysis is required. This study fills the gap by tallying the usage frequency and examining the change in the degree of societal acceptance of the significant Europeanized features in HKWC in the 2020s. The usage frequency reveals that some of the debatable features have fallen into disuse, whereas the rest have been legitimized and incorporated as part of the normative standards in today's HKWC. The corpus-based analysis shows that certain Europeanized features have evolved into new usage. In addition, this study also identifies semantic shift and other contact-induced phenomena resulting from Europeanization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
