Researchers from Ludwig-Maximilians-University conducted a study on the association between postural balance and cognitive functions in older adults. The study, based on the LIFE-Adult cohort in Leipzig, Germany, found that postural imbalance without visual input was linked to specific neuropsychological deficits, particularly impaired visuospatial abilities. The researchers suggest that including balance testing in screening programs for cognitive impairment or routine cognitive tests for older patients with balance issues may be beneficial. The study was published in Frontiers in Neurology and can be accessed for free online. [Extracted from the article] |
