The health system was affected in the COVID-19 pandemic both by decreasing the number of hospitalizations and by affecting the medical staff, as can be seen in numerous international studies. A decrease in emergency room visits and an increase in hospital admission rates for patients infected with COVID-19 have been observed. The objective of this study was to evaluate the psychosocial and cost impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on hospitalizations, considering the comorbidities of patients infected with COVID-19. The association between clinical and psychosocial attributes of patients with COVID-19 and medical staff were evaluated based on reported studies. The health system during the COVID-19 pandemic was affected by the decrease in the number of admissions (32% in 2020), supply problems and by affecting the medical staff. Another major problem during this period was the management of patients with cardiac, pulmonary, metabolic comorbidities and those infected with COVID-19, and later, the management of the complications that arose after this association, especially cases of mental disorders.
