Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at Yasuj University of Medical Sciences in Iran focused on the incidence and geographic distribution of congenital hypothyroidism (CH) in the southwest region of the country. The study analyzed data from newborn CH screenings conducted between 2011-2020 and found that the incidence rate of CH in the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad province was higher than the national average. Geographical factors such as land slope and vegetation type were identified as predictors of CH, highlighting the importance of nutritional interventions during pregnancy to prevent the disease. The study underscores the significance of genetic and environmental factors in the development of CH, which is a preventable cause of mental retardation and intellectual disability in newborns.
