Nutrition is one of the most important factors influencing skin and hair coat condition in dogs and cats. The optimal diet should contain all nutrients necessary for the growth of healthy skin and hair. Dietary protein and fat deficiencies should be avoided. Increased fat dietary levels can improve skin health and hair coat quality. Polyunsaturated fatty acids, zinc, biotin and some vitamins are essential for proper skin barrier function. Preparations containing these substances have been used in veterinary dermatology for years. The aim of this paper was to present the aspects connected with the importance of nutrition in veterinary dermatology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
