The article discusses Gustav von Bodelschwingh's innovative approach to construction using loam as a building material in rural Germany between 1923 and 1937. Bodelschwingh's technique, known as Lehmbrotbauweise, emphasized community involvement and self-construction using natural materials. The process was imbued with liturgical quality and ritual actions, allowing the community to build itself both empirically and symbolically. Bodelschwingh's work focused on creating a supportive and reconciled community, emphasizing the importance of self-construction and communal engagement to address housing challenges.
