Researchers from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences conducted a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to evaluate the risk of tuberculosis (TB) disease in patients receiving tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a) antagonist therapy for autoimmune diseases. The study, which included 56 trials with 22,212 adult patients, found an increased risk of TB disease associated with TNF-a antagonist therapy, particularly in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, no significant associations were found in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) or psoriasis (Ps), suggesting disease-specific variations in TB risk.
