A study conducted by researchers at Fujian Health College in Fuzhou, China, focused on the efficacy of combining Astragalus with renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) blockers in treating stage III diabetic nephropathy. The meta-analysis included 32 papers with 2462 patients, showing that the combination treatment led to a higher total effective rate and reduced levels of urinary protein excretion, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and glycosylated hemoglobin. While the study concluded that the combination treatment is safe and improves outcomes, it highlighted the need for further large-scale trials to evaluate its efficacy and safety in stage III diabetic nephropathy.
