A study conducted at the University of Montreal focused on age-related choroidal involution and its association with the senescence of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in the choroid. The research compared EPCs in young and old rats, finding a significant reduction in choroidal thickness and EPCs in older rats. Whole-genome profiling revealed gene modulation related to key signaling processes, suggesting potential strategies to preserve vascular integrity in aging choroids. The study concluded that modifying native EPCs could offer a new approach to prevent degenerative maculopathies. [Extracted from the article] |
