Researchers at Sharad Pawar Dental College and Hospital in India conducted a study on oral squamous cell carcinoma, focusing on the functional and esthetic outcomes of using the pectoralis major myocutaneous flap with or without removal of the sternocleidomastoid muscle following neck dissection. The study found that both groups exhibited restricted range of motion in certain movements, with a significant impact on neck circumference, while shoulder functionality improved over time. Participants reported generally favorable quality of life, but the researchers emphasized the need for a larger sample size to obtain more significant and reliable results.
