Abstrakt: The trends, challenges and global guidelines facing agriculture and the agri-food system are multiple, a process of reflection by decision-makers, researches and businessmen being timely and necessary. The expansion of the agricultural and agri-food sector may be significantly limited by the already existing pressure on agricultural land and water resources. Innovative production models are needed to increase productivity while maintaining biodiversity and the quality of natural resources. Aquaponics can be considered a sustainable agricultural production system because it combines plant and animal production, integrates the flow of nutrients through natural biological cycles of nitrification, is carried out without exhausting available resources and without destroying the environment, so without compromising the possibilities of satisfaction of the needs of future generations.
