The article in Journal 18 discusses the recreation of a lost glass recipe for "realgar-colored" glass objects developed in China during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The Corning Museum of Glass conducted experiments to analyze the composition and making of this glass, partnering with materials scientists to recreate the historical glass recipe in the lab. The research involved elemental analysis, glassblowing, and forming the glass in wood-burning and gas furnaces, shedding light on the unique properties and techniques used by eighteenth-century glassmakers. The study highlights the importance of experimental research methods in understanding art historical inquiries and technical innovations of Qing-dynasty glassmakers. [Extracted from the article] |
