A recent case report from Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University in China discusses a modified "chemical leech" technique used to salvage a congested SCIP flap during surgery. The technique involved draining congested blood through a venous catheter and skin incisions, with intermittent heparin irrigation to maintain blood flow. The modified technique was found to be more reliable and efficient in draining congested blood at both venule and capillary levels, ultimately improving microcirculation and flap success.
