Research conducted at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, has explored a potential curative strategy for advanced liver cancer using selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) with yttrium-90 resin microspheres followed by anatomical hepatectomy. The study focused on a 34-year-old patient with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who achieved downstaging to a resectable stage after SIRT treatment. The success of this case suggests that SIRT followed by anatomical hepatectomy could be a promising approach for treating unresectable HCC patients, warranting further investigation through confirmative trials.
