Researchers from Umm Al-Qura University in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, conducted a study on the effectiveness of the Saba thyroid shield in reducing thyroid radiation exposure during dental panoramic radiography (DPR) and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. The study found that the Saba thyroid shield significantly reduced surface doses in the thyroid region during both DPR and CBCT scans, with maximum attenuation percentages of 92.40% and 92.27%, respectively. The research highlights the importance of using thyroid shields to minimize radiation exposure and protect the thyroid gland during dental imaging procedures. [Extracted from the article] |
