Health has an important role in a country's socio-economic development. India has determined to meet the Sustainable Development Goals of providing healthy lives and fostering well-being for all people of all ages. Tribal communities are one of the most vulnerable and marginalised sections of society. The accessibility, availability, and cost of contemporary healthcare for tribal groups is extremely unequal, and as a result, they are compelled to rely on their traditional health practices for the most of their health care needs. The objective of the paper is to present and critically evaluate the health status of scheduled tribes in India. It outlines the performance of various health indicators status and the factors influencing tribal health. Further, this paper provides some viable measures for the improvement of tribal's health status and wellbeing. The paper reveals that the scheduled tribes in India have poorer health indicators and nutritional status than the national average. There is a need to develop existing human resources, offer health services to remote people, promote health awareness, and increase public investment to help improve the indigenous population's health status.
